  1. EasyAIFF - Read me
  2. EasyAIFF is an easy-to-use application which plays AIFF- and AIFC-files.

  4. Quick Start: Just try it out...

  7. Playing AIFF- and AIFC-files
  8.  
  9. To play an AIFF file, add it to the list and select it. Then
  10. • Press the play button
  11. • Hit the return or tab key
  12. • Select "Play" from the "Control" menu
  13. • Double-click on the list entry you want to play
  14.  
  15. If there's an AIFF which is currently playing it will be
  16. stopped before playing a new one.
  17.  
  18. To pause the AIFF file which is currently playing or
  19. to resume playing after it has been paused:
  20. • Press the pause button
  21. • Hit option-space
  22. • Select "Pause" from the "Control" menu
  23.  
  24. To stop the AIFF file which is currently playing:
  25. • Press the stop button or
  26. • Hit the space key or
  27. • Choose stop from the "Control" menu
  28.  
  29. To add an AIFF file to the list:
  30. • Choose "Add AIFF..." from the "Control"-menu and
  31.    select it in the standard file dialog box
  32. • Drop it on the icon of EasyAIFF
  33. • Double-click the file
  34.    (only if it's creator is set to 'EAif')
  35. • Drag the file into the window of EasyAIFF
  36.    (only if the Drag Manager is available)

  38. If there is no AIFF file currently playing and only one file is
  39. added to the list, this file will begin to play automatically.

  41. To remove the selected file from the list:
  42. • Hit the backspace key or
  43. • Choose "Remove AIFF" from the "Control" menu.

  45. To change the volume:
  46. • Choose a new volume using the slider in the "Volume" submenu in the
  47.    "Control" menu.

  50. Get information about AIFF files
  51.  
  52. To get information about an AIFF file:
  53. • select the file from the list and choose "Get Info"/type command-I from
  54.    "Command" menu
  55. • hold the shift key down and double-click on a list entry
  56.

  58. AIFF lists
  59.  
  60. You can save the list with all the AIFF files you have added to it by
  61. selecting "Save" or "Save as" from the "File" menu. By choosing "New" from
  62. the "File" menu the entire list is cleared. You will be asked if you don't
  63. saved the AIFF list when you are going to quit EasyAIFF, create a new list or
  64. open a saved one, if you want to save your old list before.

  66. There are several possibilities to open a saved AIFF list:
  67. • Double-click on its file or drop the file on the icon of EasyAIFF
  68. • Open it using the "Load" command from the "File" menu
  69.  
  70. Dragging the file on EasyAIFF’s window won't work because EasyAIFF will try to
  71. open the dropped file as an AIFF file.

  74. EasyAIFF preferences
  75.  
  76. In order to revert to the default settings, trash away the
  77. "EasyAIFF Preferences" file created in the "Preferences Folder"
  78. of your "System Folder".
  79.  
  80. Allocate sound channels at startup
  81. If this option is checked, the sound channel which is required to play
  82. AIFF files is allocated at the startup from EasyAIFF.
  83. If it is unchecked, the sound channel is allocated immediate before
  84. playing an AIFF file.

  86. Release sound channels after using them
  87. If this option is checked, the sound channel is released after it is
  88. used, i. e. when the playing of an AIFF file stops. In order to play
  89. another AIFF file, they will have to be reallocated.
  90. If this option is unchecked, the sound channel stays allocated till
  91. EasyAIFF quits.

  93. Open AIFFs after adding to list
  94. If this option is checked, the AIFF file is opened when it
  95. is add to the list.
  96. If this option is unchecked, the AIFF file is opened immediate
  97. before playing it.
  98.  
  99. Close AIFF after playing it
  100. If this option is checked, the AIFF file is closed after it has been
  101. played, i. e., when it is stopped.
  102. If it is unchecked, the file is closed when it is removed from the
  103. list or when EasyAIFF quits.

  105. Show list window in background
  106. If this option is checked, the main window of EasyAIFF stays open in
  107. the background.
  108. If it is unchecked, EasyAIFF hides its window when it is switched in
  109. the background and shows it when it is switched back.

  111. Continue playing in background
  112. If this option is checked, EasyAIFF continues playing the current AIFF
  113. regardless if it is in background or in front.
  114. If it is unchecked, EasyAIFF pauses playing when it is switched to background
  115. and resumes it when switching it back.

  154. EasyAIFF is freeware. That means you are allowed and expected to copy it.
  155. If you use it, please register by mailing me your e-mail address so that I
  156. can tell you when there is a new version of EasyAIFF. I will send you the most
  157. recent version by snail mail when you send me a self-addressed and stamped (!)
  158. envelope.
